The role:

• To offer support, advocacy and information to all children and young people, including safety planning and risk assessment and assist them into settling in at the service.
• Carry out an initial needs assessment with both the mother and child/young person to assess needs.
• To undertake risk assessments and risk management with young people, including the development of safety plans and referral to MARAC when necessary and to ensure that the Senior Coach is aware of any high risk situations or of any safeguarding issues.
• Produce individual support plans for each child and young person that include actions identified and required from the above assessments.
• To facilitate young people’s access to other resources and services, such as doctors and social services, and act as an advocate for young people in meetings and discussions.
• To build good working relationships with parents and develop effective partnership working to achieve best value and quality in delivery of the service. Providing mothers with relevant information about local services for their children and young people, such as children’s services, health teams, local schools and nurseries.
• Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting children and young people escaping domestic abuse and utilising Stonewater’s domestic abuse services.
• Undertake risk assessment for all planned activities ensuring health and safety, safeguarding and other policies and procedures are adhered to. To report any issues or concerns to the relevant manager.
• Lead on CYP safeguarding issues in the service and build relationships with local safeguarding teams, ensure that mothers are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities and case hold CYP safeguarding referrals, compile/contribute to relevant Children in Need/Child Protection reports.
  
  
  

The ideal candidate:

• Proven experience of working with young people within a similar role,
• An in-depth understanding of the impact of domestic violence on children and young people.
• Demonstrable experience of partnership working with specialist agencies such as mental health team, youth offending services.
• A natural relationship builder with the ability to motivate, influence and inspire your clients.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt your approach depending on your audience and required outcome.
• Understanding of and a commitment to compliance in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
• Methodical with highly developed organisation and prioritisation skills combined with the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
• The ability to demonstrate a supportive approach to vulnerable young families maintaining dignity and respect.
• A comprehensive understanding of professional boundaries together with a high level of personal integrity
• The ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to Equality and Diversity and works in a manner that is inclusive.
• Proven experience in an area of specialism such as domestic abuse, offending, substance misuse, mental health.
